I wouldn't say I'm "cheap"

But I like free things just as much as the next girl.
Lately I've been addicted to food. Ok, so not so lately, I like eating! And things that I grow seem to taste the best.
I've been looking for seeds for next year, yes I know it's only June and I have my gardens growing as we speak. Here are some sites where you can get FREE seeds! Who wouldn't love that?!?!

wintersown.org   You have to send a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope to receive 6 packets of seed for your climate. OR you can send a SASE and get 6 packets of tomato seeds OR for 20$ you can get 200 seeds for a community garden or other group gardening project! How awesome is that?!?!

Heirloom seed swap is totally FREE FREE FREE!! You can swap your seeds for others! Check them out there are seeds that you don't need to swap for! A great place to trade some of your seeds!

I found Free Plant but I tried to order some back in February and never received anything , maybe you will have better luck than I did.

I got an email from Burts Bees today for free sunflower seeds!

While you are saving the bees, head over to Live Monarch. to get free seeds for plants that attract Monarch Butterflies. You can also sign up to receive emails on how to care for butterflies and get pictures of butterflies from egg to full grown! A great summer project for kids!

If you are looking for trees hit up Tree Dazzled and request seeds for conifer trees! You can get 10 seeds every two weeks!

Over at Trees and seeds You can get free seeds when you buy some from their shop. Not totally free but still worth it if you are already planning on buying seeds.

Pennyss Tomatoes gives you 3 free packets of seeds when you place an order. A yummy way to get more 'matoes!

I'll keep updating as I find more but this should be a good start for you.

Repost from my other blog : Pissed off home birther

I wrote this over 2 years ago. My thoughts are still the same. Yes, every woman who wants to should be able to have a home birth. If you want to go Unassisted you better know what you are doing. Sure woman have been giving birth since the beginning of time but back then we had mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and wise woman to help us.  Yes, there is less rick for low rick pregnancies at home but that doesn't mean you can go into labor wit h no knowledge of what's going to happen.

I know this girl, I'll call her Jill. She wants a home birth, unassisted. She's not researching at all. She's just hopping that everything will turn out right.
She hasn't read any of the books I gave to her, she hasn't talked to anyone that has had a HB, she hasn't even watch a HB on youtube. She is too cheap ( her words) to get a midwife and she thinks a Douala will be able to take care of her.
This is one case where I think she should go to the hospital. She needs someone to tell her to grow up and stop being a "rebel". Sure it's "cool" to have a home birth but you have to EARN it. You HAVE to know what you are doing. You have to be taking care of yourself, you have to be smart enough to take your prenatal vitamins, research everything that can go wrong and how to take care of it. You have to know the risks and you HAVE got to use your brains! You can't go into birth thinking that you will be fine ( chances are you WILL be fine but why take the chance?). You have to know how to relax through your contractions, how long is too long for your placenta to detach, how much blood is normal... I could go on but you get my drift.
You know it is girls like think who make home birthers look crazy. It's girls like this who will have problems. It's irresponsible NOT to know what can go wrong, you need to know what is "normal" and how to take care of "not normal". You can't count on ANYONE to help you with your child's birth. Who know what could happen and you could be on your own. You NEED to know how to breath for your baby, you need to know how to take care of the placenta. Sitting back and letting your pregnancy just happen with out being aware what is going on is not something that should be done, ever. That's just asking for trouble.

Birth is Beautiful

I know, I know. I'm a birth junkie. I freely admit it. Everyone knows it.

But watching a birth, being there with a mother , watching her face, it breath taking. The first time Momma and Baby see each other and hold each other, it's like nothing else on Earth. Their Bond is the strongest bond in the world. It doesn't matter if it's her first birth or her tenth, the look on her face the first time she sees her baby is something you will never forget.

I was a t a birth in January of this year. I was blown away by the love and support the father gave tot he mother. He was up walking with us, rubbing her feet , telling her she was doing great, she looked beautiful. He was amazing. When he watched his wife birth their son, he was the proudest father in the world.

I'm so so bless to be a Doula. I love my job, I love the families I work with.

Bullies are not a fact of life

   I wrote this May 25 2012

I refuse to believe that bullying is ok. It's not, in no way, shape or form is bullying " part of life".  I will not send my kids to public school so they can " learn to deal with bullies".  I'm suppose to PROTECT my children, not make them "deal" with punks. Telling our children that dealing with bullies is part of life means we are failing as a society. We shouldn't have our children killing themselves because of being bullied at school. When is enough enough? When are we going to stop coddling bullies and start making them learn to deal with society?
A few days ago a 7 year old boy killed himself. He was bullied at school, his parents told the school what was happening and NO ONE DID ANYTHING!! He was only 2 year old than my son. His parents tried but they couldn't protect him. We have gay teens being harassed and bullied by religious quack teenagers, their parents and churches. These kids are killing themselves at massive rates!
When are we going to stand up for our children? When are we going to stand up against religious fundamentals who are spreading hate?  We're not, we don't want to rock the boat. we don't want to upset the status quo. We are going to have more kids killing themselves, we are going to send our children to schools and hope for the best.
What a sad world we live in. Our Country is sick but everyone just looks the other way. No one wants to stand up, no one is willing to rock the boat. But here I am. I'm going to rock the boat, I'm going to flip the boat and dump everyone in it out.  I'm NOT going to teach my children to " deal with bullies". I'm going to teach them to stand up for what is right and you bet I'm going to teach them how to stand up for themselves and others.
All I ask is that you stand up with me, rock the boat a bit. Protect your children, protect our children. Talk to your schools tell them you want to help stop bullying. Don't take no for an answer.

Our Urban Garden

We live on a tiny city lot in the high deserts of Wyoming. Thankfully our house is tinier and our yard is ok sized. We moved in in Oct of last year and haven't had a chance to do much with the land. We have planted two pear trees , one is a dwarf should grow 8 to 10 feet tall, 3 raspberry plants with room to add six more and more room to add black berries. We would like to have potted blueberries too. They need more water then we give to the other plants so it would be best to keep them in moist pots. Behind the berry patch is 3 lilac bushes, we are going to wait and see what colors they turn out to be, if they are all the same color we will get the other colors to mix in. In the front yard we have a huge peace sign with Radishes, carrots, broccoli, Brussels's Sprouts and onions.
In the fall we will plant a ton of garlic. We also have two beds of lettuce. We are planning on adding 3 raised beds to the west side of the house and putting the lettuce in there for the winter. Our goal would be to have something growing all year round but we shall see. We aren't going to do much with the back yard, 2 apple trees and 2 cheery trees and if we are lucky we will be able to put in a chicken coop next summer. I found this amazing 1950's truck cab that I've had my eye on as a coop. =)

Should have taken a picture first...

I made a Coconut-ginger-curry chicken for dinner with coconut ginger rice. The kids LOVED it. They asked for seconds! I think we have found a new favorite. =)

3 Chicken Breasts ( You can use whatever parts you like)
1/2 cup chopped up fresh ginger
1/2 cup coconut oil ( I'm going to try coconut milk next time)
1-2 tablespoons curry ( more or less to taste)
2 cups water

 Cover with tin foil.
Back at 350 for an hour

 1 1/2 cup chicken drippings
1/2 cup water
1 cup rice.

Cook as you would any rice.
I'd post a picture but all you would see if fat happy kids and dirty dishes. =)

Let the decluttering begin!

We are (mostly) settled into the new house.  I've recently discovered that we have a lot of stuff. I don't know where most of it even came from. We all have way to much clothing. WAY to much. I've given away 10 huge boxes and still have Mt. Clothes to go through.
So, I'm setting daily goals. Tomorrow I'm going to go through all the closets and donate everything that is to small/out of style/hasn't been worn or we just don't like. My boys share a closet , N on one side , J on the other. so that should be easy. If it doesn't fit N move it to J's side. A does not need 50,000 dresses. Yes, that would be my fault for making her a new dress for every holiday & birthday. Her favorite dresses can be saved for her kids.  I don't need college shirt that no longer fit, nor do I need those skinny jeans that have never been worn.
One day at a time I guess. I will get this mess under control if it kills me. And it just may do that.

And lookie!! I love this color! It's "Deep Fire" from Ace Hardware on the wall and a pale mint on the stool! The house is starting to come together!

Natural egg dyes....... FAIL!

I've seen all these great posts on Facebook and Pinterest about dying eggs with natural dyes. Of course I had to try it!

The top photo is the eggs in purple cabbage leaves water. The bottom is the same but with vinegar added.   I peeked at them after 10 minutes and there was a faint tint of color. an hour later and I have a baby sleeping on my lap and I'm not moving anywhere to check on the eggs. they can enjoy their pink bath until I get the them.
